"What are the Jewish roots I long for?" wrote Leonard Bernstein as he pondered one of his many Jewish-inspired compositions. This unique collection of rarely heard works—including several world-premiere recordings—reveals many possible answers to Bernstein's question. Triumphal processions, mysterious invocations, intimate Jewish character portraits, rousing dances; all of these musical offerings present the great eclectic imagination of one of America's foremost 20th-century composers.
Reviews and Recognitions:
"Much that is here is musically stimulating, succinct and inspirational. I would expect this to gain a major following especially amongst the many who are enthusiasts of Bernstein as a composer." —Rob Barnett, MusicWeb-International.com
"...sincere and intense spirituality.... Best of all, perhaps - a dramatic, evocative setting of the evening prayer, Hashkivenu..." —Andrew Farach-Colton, Gramophone
"The performances are uniformly excellent; Reaux, Blochwitz and the pianists stand out." —Edith Eisler, Amazon.com
