Hear O Israel: A High Holy Days Giveaway and Video Premiere

September 02, 2020

Whether you’ll be attending Rosh Hashanah services in person or virtually this year, one thing will hold true as it does with every service: the Sh’ma will be recited. Along with other designated occasions for its recital, the Sh’ma is also the prayer inscribed on the scroll of a mezuzah, per the instructions that "thou shalt write [the words] upon the doorposts of thy house, and upon thy gates."

The Sh'ma is also central to a new video documentary we're premiering today. Jonathan Klein's Hear O Israel tells the remarkable story of how the teenage son of a rabbi wound up recording a sacred service he composed for a Jewish youth group with some of the greatest jazz musicians of all time, among them Herbie Hancock and Ron Carter. Though the service is not designed for Rosh Hashanah, this story of coincidences, second chances, and redemption will strike a chord with many during this most unusual High Holy Day season.

Win Music and Mezuzot

Our High Holy Days Giveaway returns this year, with 30 winners in honor of our 30-Year Anniversary.

Another popular symbol of Rosh Hashanah, pomegranates are representative of Israel, where their season corresponds closely with the High Holy Days. This fruit from biblical times is said to have 613 seeds—one for each commandment of the Torah.

So, in addition to giving away the Hear O Israel album and our entire 4-album Volume 15, three Grand Prize winners will also receive an artisan designed mezuzah, decorated with a pomegranate to make 5781 extra sweet! Be sure to enter your email below by Tuesday, September 15.
